MASK UPDATE
The HUMC Leadership Team recently discussed the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. Having looked at the information it was decided to return to our masking policy. We ask that all people, vaccinated and unvaccinated, wear masks at all HUMC worship services, group gatherings and indoor activities. Our hope is that this will prevent us from having to close down our public worship. Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe.
A Message from the
HUMC Leadership Team
We are searching for the next four (4) members of Leadership Team of HUMC. This is a 4-year commitment of meetings and activities to help lead our church in serving our community and attaining our goals. If you feel this is your calling, please contact the church office for an application. All applications must be received by 9/30/2021 for consideration. New members of the Leadership Team will be voted in at Charge Conference, November 3, 2021.
Cancer Caring Group
If you or someone you know is dealing with cancer and would like to share your experience with others or hear how others are coping with this challenge, you are invited to join the HUMC Cancer Caring Group. This group is led by two facilitators, one male and one female. Participants will be with others who are walking, or have walked, a similar journey.

We meet at 2:00 p.m. on Thursdays, at Hermitage United Methodist Church, 205 Belinda Dr., room 203. Enter the building by the church office. If you would like to join the group but prefer to join virtual, please contact us for a zoom connection. For directions or more information, please call the church office at (615)883-3918 or email the facilitator, Ted.Lehmann100@gmail.com.
Habitat for Humanity Fall Methodist Build
The 2021 Habitat for Humanity Methodist Build begins in just a few weeks!

Hermitage UMC has committed funds to aid in building a new townhouse community, Sherwood Commons, in Nashville. This is a first of its kind build for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville and we get to be part of it! We have partnered with other Methodist churches and organizations to make this happen over seven weekend days between Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, October 17.

What is a build day like?

Fun!! The day will start around 7:00am with breakfast and we’ll start working around 7:30 am. Most of us will work as teams on various tasks, with appropriate social distancing and safety measures in place, throughout the community.

Habitat will be providing each volunteer with new, personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, gloves, and a face covering. You will keep these items after the build day because no PPE is shared.

Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. and then we’ll wrap up around 3:30 p.m. All food items will be individually packaged and lunch will be an individual boxed lunch to maintain a safe environment.  Hermitage UMC is sponsoring all food and hosting our build on Sunday, September 26.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone over 16 years of age. There are jobs for everyone whether you are a master builder or have never picked up a hammer before your day on site. A Habitat Build is a great multi-generational and family oriented service experience.

We would love you to join us the day Hermitage UMC is sponsoring all meals, Sunday, September 26, but you can sign up for any day of the build that works with your schedule.

How do I sign up?

Click on the link below and then sign up for the date(s) you prefer. Add your name and email address and that’s it! Habitat will send you the specific directions and details as we get closer to the build day.
If you can't make it on one (or more) of the build days, please consider donating to help fund the build or provide food for Hermitage UMC's sponsored day.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Jodi Chadwell at chadwell.jodi@gmail.com or (615) 512-0722.
GriefShare
If you have lost a loved one it helps to get support from others who are also grieving. We have been offering GriefShare at our church for several years and will continue to do so. We will be offering our fall course online using zoom. It will be offered Sunday afternoons August 29 - November 21 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. GriefShare is a 13-week Bible based program that includes a video, workbook and discussion time. The videos have grief experts and sharing from people who have lost loved ones. The workbook has scriptures and questions for personal reflecting. The discussion time provides an opportunity to share your experiences and hear from others. The class/support group is led by Becky Riney. The only cost is a workbook which is $15. You can register online (and order the workbook) at Griefshare.org.

If you have any questions, please call Becky at 615-642-1247 or email at briney@alivehospice.org.
Weekly Eblast Deadline

UPDATES

MASK UPDATE

The HUMC Leadership Team recently discussed the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. Having looked at the information it was decided to return to our masking policy beginning August 15th. We ask that all people, vaccinated and unvaccinated, to wear masks at all HUMC worship services, group gatherings and activities. Our hope is that this will prevent us from having to close down public worship. Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe.

HUMC KIDS

Since receiving their personal Bible last month, the 3rd-5th graders have been exploring the scriptures and finding fun facts. Recently, Bexlie Smith shared the Israelite tradition of sewing blue cords or long blue fringes on the corner of clothing. These tassels were a daily reminder to the Israelites to remember God’s commandments and obey them. The tassels also marked the wearer as an Israelite. Tassels were still a common part of clothing in New Testament times. What daily reminders do we use or wear to help us remember and obey God’s commandments?

HUMC YOUTH

Looking for a great way to serve? We are looking for volunteers to bring a simple meal to our youth on Sunday evenings at 5:00 p.m. It is a great way to get to know these outstanding young men and women and spend a little time seeing what God is doing in the lives of our young people.

You do not need to stay the entire time. You can just drop off the food and go. It is a great service opportunity for groups and Sunday school classes. Click the link to sign up and for ideas. You can also contact Julie Anna Johnson at julieanna@humc.org.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY

HUMC Celebrate Recovery worship is now on Wednesday nights at the Belinda campus.

What to expect:
  • Large group meeting 6:30 p.m.
  • Open share meeting 7:30 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to invite their families and friends to the large group worship. The large group worship is designed to set aside the busyness and stress of the outside world by entering into a time of prayer, praise and worship, and teaching as a way of getting in touch with Jesus Christ. Everyone is welcome.

The open share small group meets immediately after the large group meeting and provides a place for the participant to connect with other Celebrate Recovery attendees. This is a safe place where participants can be in gender-specific groups and issue-specific groups. Open share is voluntary.
